Abstract
Based on a systematic review of the relationship between digital technology, tourism
development and economic growth, this paper adopts the fixed effect model, panel quantile model and
moderating effect model to empirically test the impact of tourism development on economic growth under
the effect of digital technology from the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2013 to 2020. The
results show that tourism development has a significant role in promoting economic growth, which
verifies the “ tourism-led growth hypothesis ( TLGH) ” , and with economic growth, the positive impact
of tourism development on economic growth is gradually significant. Digital technology also has a
positive effect on economic growth, and with economic growth, the impact of digital technology on
economic growth presents a U-relationship that first decreases and then increases. From the perspective
of technology empowerment, digital technology significantly positively regulates the economic growth
effect of tourism development. In addition, in different tourism markets and different regions, the
impact of digital technology regulating tourism development on economic growth has significant
heterogeneity.
